Minimum Enrolled Semesters At least 2 semesters (around 6 months)
Duration of stay
  • Grant stay period considering the academic calendar of enrolled semesters
  • Can extend after initial approval of 6 months of stay
  • Allow a maximum stay period of 2 years
Note
  • Apply 2 months before start of classes as issuance takes 2 weeks or up to 5 weeks for certain countries
  • Make sure to check with the diplomatic office in the country of residence for the submission documents when applying for the visa
  • If you are studying at another school on a D-4 visa, you can’t transfer. You need to leave the country and go through the admission process with Sogang KLEC and then apply for a D-4 visa again, or enter the country on a tourist visa/K-ETA and take one semester.

Duration of stay

  • Cannot extend duration of stay
  • When hoping to extend the duration of the stay, need to change a visa into a Korean language training visa in domestically. Check in advance if it is possible to change with the immigration office under the jurisdiction of the residence.

  • When hoping to extend the duration of the stay, you must change the visa into a Korean language training visa domestically.   • Korea When changing to a Korean language training visa (D-4-1) in Korea

    • Students should check directly with the Immigration Office to confirm whether they are eligible to apply for a visa change.
    • When changing to a D-4 visa, registration for at least two semesters is required, and semesters taken under other visas (including K-ETA) are not included.
    • If the expiration date of your tourist visa is before the start date of the semester, you can’t apply for a D-4 visa in Korea.
    • Change from H-1 visa to D-4 visa in Korea is not possible.

Note
  • Apply within 90 days of entering the country; if the deadline is missed, a fine will be imposed.
  • when returning to the home country during the language training period, make sure to hold the alien registration certificate, as otherwise exit from home country or entry into Korea could be limited
    • When exiting the country before receiving the certificate with application approved, get an “alien registration confirmation certificate” issued from the airport, community service center or immigration office
    • Location of issuance at the airport: Ministry of Justice immigration service center, 3rd floor of Incheon Airport terminal 1 or Ministry of Justice immigration service center, 2nd floor of Incheon airport terminal 2
  • Request reissuance within 14 days if it is lost
  • The alien registration certificate should be returned at the airport immigration when returning to home country for the last time, as not doing so could have negative impacts towards future entry into Korea

Visa Extension

⑦ KRW 50,000 of fees for e-application / KRW 60,000 for in-person application
Note
  • You may request extension from 4 months prior to expiration of stay period.
  • You can make an e-application between 4 months and 1 business day prior to visa expiration.
  • Visit reservation can be made from 4 months before your visit; however, make sure to make a reservation at least 1 month before your visit, as it is booked out quickly during the visa extension period.
  • A fine will be placed if visa is extended after the expiration of stay period
  • Extension of stay could be limited if language training activity is determined to be insincere due to attendance rate, etc.

Change in Residence

Note
  • Report of residential change within 14 days is obligatory. It is reported to the immigration of the new residence or online. If unreported, fine is imposed (Refer to Article 36, Article 45 of the Enforcement Decree)
    ※ Obligatory even with simple changes (i.e. Dormitory room number)

Part-time Work

⑦ Copy of business license (if business license includes manufacturing, additionally submit ‘verification of part-time employment requirement compliance’ and copy of ID)
⑧ Copy of standard employment contract (include hourly wage, work details and hours, contract between directly associated parties according to the business license required, employment contract with separate employment and utilization such as temporary agencies not allowed)
Note
  • Receive confirmation by the school foreign student manager on part-time employment certificate and submit to immigration office of jurisdiction
  • Application permitted for those holding D-4 visas exceeding 6 months from the date of entry
  • You can apply if the average total attendance of enrolled semesters exceeds 90%
  • TOPIK level 2 or higher holders can work for 25 hours a week or less for a part-time job, otherwise 10 hours a week or less
  • Limited to maximum 6 months within the stay period, at 1 location
  • Study abroad qualification can be cancelled and the student can be sent back to their country if they are employed without permission, or if they violate permission conditions
  • All responsibilities of the management of stay eligibility lie with the individual.
  • Documents and relevant details are in accordance with the Ministry of Justice guidelines, and make final confirmations with the immigration office of jurisdiction as changes could occur at all times.
